Ever since elementary school, my dream job has been to write the fantasy books that have always captivated and encouraged me. Not many people get to make their childhood dreams a reality, but when an afternoon daydream wouldn't let me go in middle school, I knew I had a story worth pursuing. Six drafts later, THE BROKEN HEIR is a fantasy novel of my very own, and I hope you will join me on my journey to publication. I write to entertain, but more importantly, so readers long for the courage and redemption in my adventures to become their realities. Good writing demands an answer.
When I’m not writing, I’m reading—fast. I devour books, and I’ve gotten close (95 books) to 100 books read in a year. Only Brandon Sanderson’s giant Stormlight Archive thwarted my goal last year---totally worth it. C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien are two of my biggest inspirations, along with more current fantasy writers like Robin Hobb and Patrick Rothfuss. Outside the realm of fiction, books like Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis and The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel led me back to my Christian faith. I would not be a writer, filling pages with other worlds that highlight hope for our own universe, if I were not assured that the Author of my own story was writing with care a way for any of us to know him. I am a Stamps Scholar studying Creative Writing and Spanish at the University of Mississippi. The Stamps scholarship has enabled me to study abroad in nine different countries, teaching me about storytelling by showing me both the beauties and the complicated histories of our world. More importantly, I have gained the perspectives of the people I have met. Learning Spanish has given me a global view of the relationship between literature and language. Overall, my undergraduate experience has broadened my horizons and developed my writing craft. In applying to graduate M.F.A. programs in Creative Writing, I hope to one day become a professor and teach at the college level, helping students find their own stories and bring them to life on the page.
